The Guardian

I believe that nature is an extremely powerful setting for recovery. Of all the treatment environments I experienced, wilderness therapy was by far the most helpful.

And while it helped me greatly, there were moments that upset, confused, and angered me. It was not an experience I consented to, but it was an experience that saved me.

I wrote this article to explore those layers — the mix of anger and awe, the restorative medicine of nature, and the stunning beauty of finally meeting myself on the forest floor.
